Fall in Beautiful Hood River

When I talk to people around town about the seasons here in Hood River, so many of them tell me they like fall the best. The crisp nights and sunny fall days, the changing light on the landscape, the beautiful sunsets—so many things make fall special here in the Columbia River Gorge. And then there’s the harvest—apples, pears, nectarines, peaches, grapes, chestnuts—the bounty from this agriculturally rich area is simply amazing.

And we celebrate that harvest in so many wonderful ways, with a host of activities and events happening all month—like the Pumpkin Funland at Rasmussen Farms, U-Pick Apple and Pear Explosion at Draper Girls Country Farm, and the Heirloom Apple Butter Festival and BBQ, just to name a few.

Then there is the big-daddy annual event—the Hood River Valley Harvest Fest, October 19-21. It’s no surprise this event is a favorite with locals as well as visitors from all over the world. Here you’ll find rows and rows of fresh, delicious local produce, family entertainment with live music, local foods, activities for kids (like the very popular petting zoo), and over 100 art vendors to help you get all your holiday shopping done, and lots of fresh air.

You’ll leave with gifts, food (local pies, jams, and produce anyone?), and a big smile on your face. And maybe even a prize for winning the pie-eating contest!

Don’t just wish you were here, come visit.

Hope to see you soon!  Kerry

PS Don’t miss the WAAAM Traffic Jam and the Columbia Gorge Marathon this month too!
